With close to 91,000 followers on Instagram, Ministylehacker (otherwise known as four-year old Ryker Wixom and his Mum, Collette) is showing you don’t need to be rich to have style.
Mrs Wixom started dressing Ryker in copy cat outfits three months ago. She writes on her Mini Style Hacker blog the reason for her inspiration: “This all started when a friend showed me pictures of a few ‘fashion kids’ on Instagram.” Noticing the expensive designer brands such as Gucci and Ferragamo that adorned these children, Mrs Wixom decided to ‘hack’ the style of men’s fashion and show other parents how they could do the same.
Mrs Wixom styles Ryker in shots juxtaposed alongside celebrities, male models and fashion bloggers effortlessly copying their outfits and poses.
Instead of dressing him in the expensive threads rocked by Ryan Gosling, Pharrell and fashion blogger Adam Gallagher, Ryker models outfits made up of more affordable brands including Gap, H&M, Target and Zara to show keen parents how to style their children for a fraction of the cost.
Mrs Wixom gets Ryker to cooperate by making it fun for him. She says she convinces Ryker to copy the poses by engaging with his imagination, “if you see him with his hands in his pockets, he is holstering his imaginary laser guns. If you see him leaning against a wall, he is trying to push it over with his body weight.”
Although the mother-of-two says the attention Ryker has generated has been “completely unexpected”, I don’t think it is! Here’s to a ridiculously photogenic wee boy and a Mum who is helping the shape the way for kid’s fashion.
